The building was converted to condos before Boston fire code required sprinklers and therefore the fire spread quickly and was hard to contain. The fire resulted in approximately $3.5 million in damage to the 10-story building. The building had 174 residents, and luckily no one was severely inured.
Since then, insurance claims were made, units were renovated, and the main piping, electrical and heating systems were replaced. Residents of 483 Beacon have been displaced for over a year. As you can imagine, some owners have bought new properties, and others have moved to different cities or changed lifestyles. What doe this mean for buyers? That we will be seeing a lot of units coming on the market in 483 Beacon. Which, for all intents and purposes, is new construction in the Back Bay!
My favorite unit on the market is unit 11, which happens to be the largest unit in the building at 985 square feet. This two bedroom, 1.5 bathroom is a steal at $629K!
You enter the unit into a formal foyer and are immediately struck by the 12 ft ceilings, original moldings and gleaming hardwood floors. This beautiful home has an open living area with decorative fireplace and large, updated, eat-in kitchen. There is a second decorative fireplace in the sizable master bedroom which is next to the guest room. The spa-like bath with high-end fixtures and glass tile tub surround is one of the nicest I’ve seen in this price range.
