2009 was a rough year for The Cape, a year with too many foreclosures as is; now, in January of 2010, the number of filed foreclosure deeds went up 50% according to The Warren Group, a Boston-based firm that tracks real estate trends.

Boston’s own Joey Kramer, drummer of Aerosmith, finally sold his house in Marshfield Hills, a coastal town south of Boston, after being on the market for 19 months. The 6,200 square foot house sat on 17 acres of land and included 4 bedrooms, a recording studio, a guest house, a pool, and three stand-alone garages. Kramer took a loss on the property however, originally asking $5 million in 2008 and settling for $2.7 million yesterday.

Just surfing the site tonight and I noticed that their were 8 units currently on the market over at Strada 234 (Located at 234 Causeway Street – Officially in the West End – Unofficially located in the North End).

Rentjungle.com reports that over the last 6 months the average rent for apartments has gone down $40 to an average of $961, a decrease of roughly 4%. Rentjungle.com reached their conclusion by analyzing over a million apartment ads every month, and then comparing data collected from July-August to data collected from December-January.
Boston’s average rent went down too, from $1,973 through July-August to $1915 through December-January, a 3% decrease of $58! For the full table of statistics, click here!

Portfolio.com and Bizjournals conducted a stud that found Newton, MA to be the second wealthiest urban area in the States. Based on the findings of the 2008 US Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, the study ranked 420 cities, towns, and urban areas with populations of 75,00o or more on several criteria: per capita income, median household income, percentage of households earning more than $200,000 per year, median home value, the 80th percentile for household income, and the 75th percentile for home values.

Comments came pouring in after The Globe posted their article about Alyssa Burrage and her suit against her broker, Joseph DeAngelo, but after less than an hour of deliberation a Suffolk County jury rejected Burrage’s claim that her broker misled her by concealing the fact that a resident smoker lived below her $405,000 apartment.
