As I was browsing the hundreds of Tweets that had built up in my feed while I was at work yesterday, two adjacent Boston Globe Tweets caught my eye. The first that I read went something like “Survey- What will happen to home sales now that the home buyer tax credit expires?” with a link to a short, one question survey with four responses to choose from (more on those later.) The Tweet directly below that one, also by the Globe, read something like, “New Home Sales Jump 14.8% in …

BostInnovation.com, a new media property aimed at the creation and aggregation of original content focused on Boston’s startup ecosystem, posted a lovely article on our fine city’s new Innovation District (the waterfront area formerly known as the Seaport District) and the latest event surrounding it, “Boston’s Innovation District: An Evening at the Harpoon Brewery,” which brought together young professionals, entrepreneurs, and city officials (including the Mayor himself) for drinks and discussion last Monday.
The article focused on a central issue that faces the city’s plan to develop and draw business towards …

So I’ve been writing about foreclosure’s in Massachusetts for a while now, and to be honest, it’s making me a little depressed. Yesterday, the Boston Globe published yet another article on the foreclosure crisis, here’s a condensed version compiled from excerpts from the original article.
Home Loss Surging in Mass. (Rate of foreclosure jumps as lenders get used to process.)
The number of homeowners who lost their properties to foreclosure in April swelled to 1,372, almost 80 percent more than during the same month last year, according to data released yesterday by …

Recently I’ve posted a few articles about the ongoing dispute between Don Chiofaro, developer of International Place, and Mayor Menino regarding height restrictions on a new office complex that Chiofaro wants to build on The Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway. The problem for Mr. Chiofaro is that there are specific height restrictions in and around the Greenway, an effort to preserve the Boston Harbor skyline, and Menino isn’t budging. But International Place wasn’t the only development slated for the Greenway that probably won’t come to fruition.
During its conception, the Greenway was …

Celebrities Spotted in Boston! – When Alex Rodriguez was in town for the Yankees/Red Sox series last week, apparently he flew in, stayed, and “had an incredible time,” with none other than Cameron Diaz, who was in Boston earlier this year on a film shoot. People Magazine reports that the baseball star spent his time off in the rooftop suite of The Liberty Hotel with the movie star, not even leaving for meals. An eyewitness told People, “Instead, they shared lots of room service and had an incredible time together.” …

In Bloomberg Businessweek’s recent update to their first-quarter findings, they have announced that home prices rose in 91 American cities. Bloomberg attributes this to the tax credit taking a significant number of properties off the market and the slow but steady recovery of states hit hard by high foreclosure rates.
“Cities that led the nation in foreclosures a year earlier had the biggest price increases as a tax credit of as much as $8,000 boosted demand and drove the supply of unsold homes to a four-year low in January, according to …

The W’s filed for bankruptcy, the foreclosure rate is at a high, and unemployment has gone down all in the midst of what many are calling a “revitalized” real estate market.
This is craziness. Here are the bullets.
What’s The Deal With The W?
As you may well know, one of Boston’s newer luxury hotels and residencies, the internationally recognized W Hotel, has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy.
The W lies in the heart of the Theater District on Stuart Street and is considered an artistic masterpiece, designed by Bill Rawn, however, many consider …

Press Release by Aaron Pressman:
BOSTON, May 5 (Reuters) – Low interest rates and loose lending policies were not to blame for the nationwide boom and subsequent crash in U.S. home prices over the past decade, according to a new paper by three university researchers released on Wednesday.
Contrary to conventional wisdom blaming the Federal Reserve for keeping rates too low or failing to enforce tighter mortgage standards, the paper blames “faulty expectations” of buyers and lenders who believed home prices would rise indefinitely.
“If economists are going to better understand housing bubbles, …
