Russia Wharf Tops Off

I walk by Russia Wharf on a daily basis – to and from work every day and I’m always fascinated at how they are moving along with the construction of this high-rise, mixed use development. Located at the intersections of Boston’s Financial District, Waterfront, & Seaport District / Fort Point Channel areas, Russia Wharf is an exciting new development to hit Boston.

Russia Wharf will have a combintation of Boston condos, office space, artist-work space, a 650 car garage, ground floor retail, as well as public space. There are about 65 Boston condos in the works for Russia Wharf, 23,000 sq feet of ground retail, and approximately 750,000 sq feet of office space. The addition of Russia Wharf to downtown Boston will be a huge contribution to this area of the city bringing new residential, commercial, and public space together along Boston Harbor.

Maintaining the original historic brick facades of the building and then adding another structure to the development, Russia Wharf and its development stands as a great example of Boston’s great architectural use of blending old with new. This new construction Boston condo / mixed use development will stand at 400 feet above the Boston Harbor showing its original brick base combined with the glass-encassed structure that will tower over the Rose Kennedy Greenway.

This week, workers at Russia Wharf place the final beam on this 31 story building along Boston’s waterfront. Russia Wharf is expected to reach completion in 2011 and this “topping off ceremony” was celebrated by hundreds of workers to celebrate the project moving forward.
